MEET OUR ARTISANS

Through our products, we showcase the talent and dedication of traditional artisans who meticulously create each ceramic piece. Our mission is to bring their exceptional work to a global audience, while preserving the traditions and artistry passed down through generations. In the town of Horezu, around 50 artisans continue a 300-year-old ceramic tradition, recognized by UNESCO in 2012 as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Discover the stories behind the ceramics and the artisans who bring them to life, as we invite you to embrace the beauty of Romanian craftsmanship.

TECHNIQUES

In Horezu, pottery is a year-round craft shared between two roles: modelers, who shape the clay, and decorators, who paint traditional motifs. The clay—customarily sourced from a nearby hill owned by local families—is shaped and then painted using specialised tools, including ox horn pens and brushes made from cat whiskers or boar hair. Artisans mix their own paints from local minerals, using muted tones of green, blue, red, and brown. After decorating, each piece is carefully dried, glazed - using a natural glazing -  and twice fired in a kiln.
